The International Federations of the 32 different sports have been revealing the path to Olympic qualification, and as a result, the anticipation for the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024 is growing by the day.

The schedule for qualifying matches in volleyball has been made public by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB). When the Olympics are held in Paris in 2024, world rankings will play a more significant part in the determination of quotas, and the overall structure of the competition will be slightly different than it was in Tokyo in 2020.

Find out the explanations to the most important questions regarding the qualification process for the volleyball tournament in Paris in 2024.

How many volleyball teams will compete in Paris in 2024?

12 teams will compete in both the women’s and men’s tournaments, totaling 144 athletes per gender.

How do volleyball players qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris?

France is entitled to one quota for both the men’s and women’s tournaments as the host nation.

In September and October 2023, three Olympic Qualification Tournaments will determine six of the remaining eleven quotas for each gender.

The FIVB rankings on September 12, 2022 (men) and October 17, 2022 (women) will determine the 24 teams that will compete in the three Olympic Qualification Tournaments (women). Two teams from each tournament will qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The five remaining Olympic spots will be determined by the FIVB rankings in June 2024, with priority given to continents that have not yet qualified a team for the Olympic tournament.

Six qualification tournaments were held for Tokyo 2020, with the remaining spots being determined by continental competitions.

What kind of competition format will be used for the volleyball tournament in Paris 2024?

Instead of the two groups of six teams that were seen in the preliminary phase during the Tokyo 2020 competition, there will be three groups of four teams each during the Paris 2019 competition.

The top two teams from each group, as well as the top two third-placed teams, will advance to the next round of the tournament. After that, there won’t be any more adjustments; the quarterfinals, semifinals, and matches for the bronze and gold medals will proceed as planned.

Teams and players in volleyball to keep an eye on during the Paris 2024 Olympics

Even though the host nation of France does not have to worry about qualifying for the Olympics, it is still important to keep an eye on the men’s team that is led by Jean Patry and Earvin N’Gapeth. This team won their first gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

After failing to place in the top three for the first time since Sydney 2000, Brazil will be looking to revamp their team while still counting on the experience of Bruno Rezende and Yoandy Leal. This will be the first time Brazil has failed to place in the top three since Sydney 2000.

Megastars like Tijana Boskovic from Serbia and Paola Egonu from Italy always make their teams strong candidates in any competition. The United States of America and Brazil were the teams that made it to the finals of the women’s volleyball tournament in Tokyo. Both of these countries are located in South America.
