After the Dutch Volleybaldames swept Kenya in the GelreDome in Arnhem on the opening day of the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship, the Netherlands supporters went home with smiles on their faces. The match took place on Friday.

The Dutch were able to overcome poor beginnings in the opening two sets of the match in order to take control of the match, win 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-11), in front of their home supporters, and get off to a strong start in their Pool A campaign.

The Europeans were dominant in their first match, defeating the Tokyo Olympians in every statistical category; the Europeans lead in kills (45 to 25), blocks (13 to seven), aces (three to zero), and opponent errors. The Europeans also dominated in their first match in every category (14 to seven).

During a match in which head coach Avital Selinger used 12 of his 14 players, Anne Buijs was the most effective player for the Netherlands. She was the captain of the team. The outside hitter, who is 30 years old and also serves as the team captain, amassed 15 points, including 12 kills, two blocks, and one ace to lead all scorers.

After the game, Buijs addressed the crowd and thanked them for coming out to watch the team’s debut. “I want to thank everybody for coming here for our first match.” “When we first started, we were a little bit anxious, but as we got into a groove, we were able to really start moving forward. Because this is a long tournament and we have a lot riding on it, it was helpful to come out here and take in the atmosphere because it served as a great source of motivation for us. We wanted to give the fans in the stands a fantastic show by playing entertaining volleyball while also representing them. The very first step was taken today, and we couldn’t be happier about it. We couldn’t have asked for a more auspicious beginning.”
